Jelly Digital's cross-border dark fiber connects Tijuana, Playas, and surrounding Baja California directly to major San Diego data centers and One Wilshire in Los Angeles. Ten years of continuous operation, three physically diverse routes, single-provider ownership end to end.

Dark fiber is the purest form of cross-border transport we offer. You light the strand, you choose the optics, you own the spectrum end to end. We own the fiber plant from the Baja California origination points through our San Ysidro POP, across San Diego, and up to One Wilshire in Los Angeles — one provider, one agreement, no carrier handoffs.

What you get

Protocol-agnostic transport

Run 10G Ethernet, 100G, 400G, OTN, SDH, Fibre Channel, or anything else your optics can modulate. The fiber is glass — you dictate the protocol.

End-to-end spectrum ownership

Dedicated strands. No shared backbone, no capacity negotiations, no multi-tenant jitter. Your traffic occupies your fiber — nothing else touches it.

Single-provider path

We own the fiber from Mexican origination to LA termination. No carrier-to-carrier handoffs at the border, no additional providers to escalate through when an issue appears.

Three physically diverse routes

Deploy primary-secondary pairs for diversity-compliant circuits or split traffic across routes for high-availability topologies. Documented distinct paths on request.

Reach to major data centers

Direct on-net reach to major San Diego data centers, onward to One Wilshire (LA), and out to carrier hotels and cloud on-ramps from there. We handle cross-connects at termination.

Immediate availability

Capacity is built and idle. Most dark-fiber orders turn up in weeks rather than quarters, depending on termination paperwork and last-mile details.

When dark fiber is the right answer

You want to own the transport. Hyperscalers, carrier-class operators, and sophisticated enterprises often prefer to control the optical layer themselves — choosing vendors, amplifier spacing, and protection schemes. Dark fiber gives you that layer; we provide the glass.

You need enormous capacity or flexibility. If your current or near-term capacity requirement is measured in hundreds of gigabits, it's usually more economical to light your own fiber than to lease wavelengths one at a time.

You run services that don't fit lit transport. Storage replication, OTN client interfaces, Fibre Channel long-haul, or experimental protocols often need raw fiber rather than a lit product with fixed interface types.

You need diversity that a single lit-service carrier can't prove. Regulatory and compliance frameworks increasingly require documented physical diversity. Our three independent routes make that documentation straightforward.

Dark fiber FAQ

What's the minimum term on dark fiber?

Dark fiber is typically sold on multi-year IRU (indefeasible right of use) terms. We're flexible on structure — fixed term, month-to-month with commit, or full IRU. Send us your endpoints and preferred structure and we'll scope it.

Do you provide the optics and transponders?

For dark fiber, no — you bring your own optics and choose the protocol. If you want managed optics, ask about our lit wavelength services, which run over the same backbone with Jelly-operated transponders.

Can you document physical path diversity between two routes?

Yes. We provide KMZ files and pathway documentation for diversity-compliant deployments. Minimum separation distances and shared-facility exclusions are documented as part of the circuit package.

How does the border crossing itself work?

Our cross-border fiber runs through a licensed international transit arrangement that has been in production for ~10 years. For most customers the border is transparent — fiber enters Mexican infrastructure, terminates at our Mexican facilities, and emerges on the US side at our San Ysidro POP. The regulatory continuity is ours to maintain, not yours.

What data centers can you reach on dark?

Most major San Diego data centers and One Wilshire in Los Angeles. Specific carrier-hotel and colo terminations depend on existing on-net status — we'll confirm your target facility during scoping. If it's off-net today, we can usually extend to it.
